Bugsy Siegel: The Original Gangster of Las Vegas

Posted on March 2, 2012

To many, he was an infamous mobster, but Las Vegas would not have been what it is today without his vision. Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel is known as the man who created the city that never sleeps. Everything you see in Vegas now started off as his vision: a haven of bliss, with gambling as one of its prime attractions. He was also very skilled in attracting investors to make his visions come alive. The man was a slick gangster with an eye for business.

He was one of the first 100 persons who shaped Southern Nevada, albeit his record of crime and murder. His ties to the underworld were a forbidden topic that everyone knew about. His money, mostly ill-gotten, gave him the right to be a man of importance. And there were his nameless friends, who saved him from bars – but not from death. Siegel’s promising life came to an abrupt end when he was brutally murdered. When news of this broke out, Las Vegas rose in prominence.

Today, people still remember Siegel as the man who has done more for Vegas dead than alive.
